Alan Clarke-Symonds
Graphic Design
The Burford Farm Project

Located in the heart of Somerset this new
project is set to become a thriving centre for
community integration, health and education,
promoting sustainability and a connection
with nature.

The identity design was inspired by a distinctive
oak tree present on the site and wood block
typography — conveying a strong sense of place.
The client wanted to promote a connection to
nature whilst also creating a distinctive look and
feel for the new brand.

EJ Ryder promotional mailer designs

Building on the companies ethos of
'We don't build ordinary' I created a
series of geometric illustrations based
on their recent project work.

Technique — Poster design series

I was asked to create a layout and develop
a graphic look and feel for a series of short
workshops for learning electronics techniques
at the Royal College of Art.

The design had to be accessible, clear and be
simple to replicate so as a series of editions
could be reproduced. A key part to the brief
was to make students feel they were able to
approach the subject with ease.
Corporate Report design 2014–15

Recently at Home I was heavily involved
in the design, layout and production of a
big corporate report document. Always really
rewarding getting work back from press.

Inductance Talk series poster design

Inductance – a series of talks, discussions,
and hands-on workshops which will contextualise
and create discourse for current and near-future
technology. At the Royal College of Art.

It will demystify the jargon that makes technology
esoteric and will investigate
the social and ethical
implications of technological landscapes.

Winter photography outside
chord jewellery

Identity and pattern designs for London based
geometric jewellery design company chord.
Founded by ex-RCA students, their work focused
strongly around custom geometric designs from
which the identity was derived.

Their designs are inspired by the forms and shapes
created by metalworking machinery used for
engineering precision components. Processing such
as turning, linishing, milling and drilling are used
for their aesthetic qualities.

Part of a complete suite of icons I have
recently designed for an international
law firm.

EJ Ryder

Identity for a design, management & build outfit
EJ Ryder. The London based company creates
and redesigns office interiors and undertakes creative
construction projects. I designed a monogram
from the initials 'E' and 'J' creating an 'R' within
the negative space between the letters.

The challenge was to convey their expertise
both inside and out of buildings.

3WhiteHats Seasons greetings card design

The cards concept took its que form the
companies strap line of 'Get found be happy'.
I used the white hats present in their identity
to convey how they help their clients get found
using white hat SEO techniques.
